Statement of intent
Statement of intent
The two questions you need to answer are:
Outline your plans for your production including:
How you intend to use Media Language to target your intended audience
How you intend to use Media Representations that are appropriate to your intended audience
Media Language for Magazine:
- Colour - denotation/connotation.
- Typography - size, type of font (serif/sans serif) and colour of font.
- Image - type of shot (CU, MS, LS, etc) and camera angle.
- Layout - what goes where on the page and the meaning it creates.
Above all, you need to consider how these elements create meaning to the audience and how these create the desired representations that your audience will understand.
You need to write these 300 words approximately in a brand new post.
I chose Brief 1 which was to create an educational magazine for children aged between 10 and 13. I however narrowed it down to a magazine about reading for children aged between 10 and 12. My magazine will include famous authors such as Victoria Aveyard and J.K Rowling. It is predominantly for children who like reading; who want to know more about reading and the latest news about books and authors. Therefore, by including an exclusive interview with an author the reader is enabled to understand how the author is thinking. My magazine is called the Reader's digest as the reader is allowed to understand ('Digest') the way their favourite author thinks.
In my magazine, I used a contrasting use of dark and light colours such as light grey and black. I used this method of juxtaposition because it uses a variety of different colours for different people reading my magazine. It doesn't just focus on bright, happy colours but also uses dark, sad colours. A connotation of Grey would be Intelligence showing how much you can learn from this magazine. I will also use a range of different sizes but I will keep the same font throughout my magazine. As I explained above I will also use a contrasting amount of light and dark colours for my writing. I will use a close up shots for my double page spread article, however for my front cover I will use mid-range shots. For my double page spread article I will separate the two page so one page will have the article and the other will have writing. This makes it easier to understand as it is an article for younger children.
In my magazine, I will mostly use close up shots as they want to see the book that I am reading not the outfit. It will represent the type of books that tweenagers will read right now. I want the children to understand that the media represents reading as unimportant compared to maths, however I believe that reading is fun and can greatly help with English. However Using Stuart Hall’s theory of audience readings I know that the audiences will interpret the information differently.
